Relationships – Domestic Violence

Trigger warning – DV Two things have led to me sitting down and writing about a topic that I don’t know much about firsthand. A few days back clips from Johnny Depp’s trial, in his defamation case against his ex-wife Amber Heard, started showing up on my YouTube. It ironically coincided with me completing reading […]

  1. I’m sorry to hear about your friend’s experience. Although I don’t know first hand about family or friends going through DV, I have learnt about others who have suffered at the hands of their partners.
When I was studying for my Communication degree (Journalism), I interviewed the head of social work in DV. I learnt that DV does not discriminate and can be found even in the upper strata of society. Those society wives also put up with violent treatment as they don’t want their husbands to lose their prestigious jobs and they don’t want to see their children deprived of the lifestyle they are accustomed to. In other words, they often sacrifice their life for the sake of their children and spouse’s corporate standing. I was told that there were a number of these ladies killed by their partners.
I agree with you in that, despite our feelings of repugnance, we need to remain a source of support and comfort and be there when the victim is ready to take the vital step in leaving the abusive partner.
Thank you for this thought-provoking post. 🌹

    1. Yes.. you’re absolutely correct. Being a Geriatric Nurse with a a strong background in Hospice, Home Health and behavioral health I never thought I’d be a Survivor Of Domestic Violence & former victim. As you probably notice I put strong emphasis on the word Survivor because that victim part of me no longer exist 😊 You definitely said a mouthful unlike many my only sacrifice was my sanity and loosing me. I thank God we had to no children together. Many victims that I’ve mentored explained they kept hush just out of fear and the horrible threats made toward them. What kept me strong was having a plan while working to get away safely I prayed, wrote poetry.. song my heart out daily..and worked the plan while my hidden heart silently cried out I had to remember to keep a smile on my face. I’ll share more on this topic in one of my upcoming Podcast Episodes. You’re welcome to take a listen it will be posted here and I’ll keep you updated. I enjoy our conversations here it’s very uplifting and we are in agreement with so much. Thank you again for your sweet and inspiring comments. πŸŒΉπŸ’“πŸŒΉπŸ™
